Summary

The instant #1 New York Times and USA Today best seller by Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark, the voices behind the hit podcast My Favorite Murder now available in paperback。 Includes special bonus material!

Sharing never-before-heard stories ranging from their struggles with depression, eating disorders, and addiction, Karen and Georgia irreverently recount their biggest mistakes and deepest fears, reflecting on the formative life events that shaped them into two of the most followed voices in the nation。

In Stay Sexy & Don’t Get Murdered, Karen and Georgia focus on the importance of self-advocating and valuing personal safety over being ‘nice’ or ‘helpful。’ They delve into their own pasts, true crime stories, and beyond to discuss meaningful cultural and societal issues with fierce empathy and unapologetic frankness。

“In many respects, Stay Sexy & Don’t Get Murdered distills the My Favorite Murder podcast into its most essential elements: Georgia and Karen。 They lay themselves bare on the page, in all of their neuroses, triumphs, failures, and struggles。 From eating disorders to substance abuse and kleptomania to the wonders of therapy, Kilgariff and Hardstark recount their lives with honesty, humor, and compassion, offering their best unqualified life-advice along the way。” —Entertainment Weekly

“Like the podcast, the book offers funny, feminist advice for survival—both in the sense of not getting killed and just, like, getting a job and working through your personal shit so you can pay your bills and have friends。” —Rolling Stone

4。5 stars rounding up to 5。 Just a lovely funny vulnerably beautiful little book to listen to。 With hope and giggles。 Great chore-while-audiobook option。

A behind-the-scenes/part memoir/part advice book from the duo responsible for the hit true-crime podcast 'My favorite murder。' I've never heard their podcast before but I love how Georgia and Karen took their mutual love for true-crime stories and turned it into a mega successful podcast with a wide following of "murderinas。" Overall this book was just an okay listen for me though。 There were some very vulnerable, motivational/inspirational/empowering moments and a few funny moments sprinkled th A behind-the-scenes/part memoir/part advice book from the duo responsible for the hit true-crime podcast 'My favorite murder。' I've never heard their podcast before but I love how Georgia and Karen took their mutual love for true-crime stories and turned it into a mega successful podcast with a wide following of "murderinas。" Overall this book was just an okay listen for me though。 There were some very vulnerable, motivational/inspirational/empowering moments and a few funny moments sprinkled throughout the book too (they are BIG Brene Brown fans)。 There was also a lot of sad/heavy stuff about struggles with mental health, eating disorders, death of a parent from early onset-Alzheimer's, drug and alcohol use and abuse。 I found the one woman was REALLY heavy on pushing therapy as the be all and end all (not surprisingly as she started at the age of 6 and is from LA and I get that it can be useful but it's also expensive too and not always an option for everyone)。 Also random part of the audio book was the Paul Giamatti cameos - they come out of nowhere and are super weird but also awesome! What I did like was their #fuckpoliteness mantra encouraging women that it's okay to say no to situations that make you feel uncomfortable or unsafe and not to just go along with it out of politeness: "Sometimes responding to the world and people and difficult situations with bravery and confidence feels impossible。 Fucking politeness isn't a strict rule, it's a practice - an art to master throughout your life。" Other favorite quote: "You're worthy of a good life。 One that you're proud of and that when you wake up every morning makes you stoked to be yourself。" 。。。more

I think the last chapter really pulled it together really well。 I liked the women and gender struggles that were brought into these chapters but I also feel like there were times where it was narrative that seemed one-sided。 I mean I expect that in autobiography but I also feel like feminist discussion must keep in mind that not all women can move up due to patriarchal and capitalist society。 don't mean to take a Marxist critique on this but I can't help but discuss this as well。 I think the last chapter really pulled it together really well。 I liked the women and gender struggles that were brought into these chapters but I also feel like there were times where it was narrative that seemed one-sided。 I mean I expect that in autobiography but I also feel like feminist discussion must keep in mind that not all women can move up due to patriarchal and capitalist society。 don't mean to take a Marxist critique on this but I can't help but discuss this as well。 。。。more

I've tried to listen to the MFM podcast a couple of times and never really got into it--mostly because I have had issues with how victims were treated by the hosts (and because the name is, well, my favorite murder which comes off a little disrespectful)。 Obviously, tons of people disagree with me on that front because it's wildly popular。 I picked up the book thinking maybe reading would be more "fun" than listening in this case。。。but missed the memo that this is a memoir, not about true crime I've tried to listen to the MFM podcast a couple of times and never really got into it--mostly because I have had issues with how victims were treated by the hosts (and because the name is, well, my favorite murder which comes off a little disrespectful)。 Obviously, tons of people disagree with me on that front because it's wildly popular。 I picked up the book thinking maybe reading would be more "fun" than listening in this case。。。but missed the memo that this is a memoir, not about true crime at all。 Oops。 It did have the effect of making me like them more (especially since they addressed most of my issues with the episodes I listened to in this book), but I feel like it's something I would have gotten way more out of had I been a fan。 Some of the essays were interesting and others just seemed like rambling repeats of previous topics, but, hey, that's a book of essays for you。 Overall, I enjoyed it and maybe I'll even give the podcast another shot。 But it dragged on too long for my interest level。 。。。more

Love these ladies and their podcast。 This book feels like an easy extension of the voice they have on their podcast。 Covering personal topics and relating them to their true crime journey。 Always happy hearing their voice whether in book or podcast format ☺️

I'm a new murderino and was thrilled to find this memoir style book to get to know some backstory on the hosts。 This was an honest, emotional and insightful peek into why Georgia and Karen, and their predominantly female fan base, are so obsessed with true crime。 I'm a new murderino and was thrilled to find this memoir style book to get to know some backstory on the hosts。 This was an honest, emotional and insightful peek into why Georgia and Karen, and their predominantly female fan base, are so obsessed with true crime。 。。。more

tbh i had no idea what this book was about。 i picked it up bc the title intrigued me。 I did not know the authors host a true crime podcast, nor did I know that this book was somewhat biographical。 Despite literally not knowing anything about this book or the women who wrote it, i really enjoyed it。 I admire the strength and tenacity the authors had to push through their struggles and they were also hilarious。 I found their lessons very helpful as a LA born and raised Zillenial。

This book of essays by Karen and Georgia feels like the written version of their podcast "My Favorite Murder"。 I enjoyed the lack of structure and the conversational tone of this book。 There were definitely times when I laughed out loud! Not at all what I expected (I confess I've haven't listened to the podcast yet)。 A funny, charming and vulnerable - memoir/self help/humor/advice book。 I look forward to listening to the show。 Not at all what I expected (I confess I've haven't listened to the podcast yet)。 A funny, charming and vulnerable - memoir/self help/humor/advice book。 I look forward to listening to the show。 。。。more

Can I be a Murderino if I never listen to the podcast? Because I’m not super into true crime but this book was wonderful。 So many times I caught myself nodding along or remembering times in my life that I experienced the same feelings they were describing。 Part memoir and part advice, it’s a must read for everyone。 Women will relate and men might understand a little bit more of what it means to be a women in today’s society。

If you love the podcast you will love learning more about Karen and Georgia。I laughed and got teary。。。。。all I can ask for, in a memoir

I absolutely love listening to these two on their podcast and loved their book even more! Their honesty with their pasts just makes it that much easier to listen to。

So good! Written by the podcasters from My Favorite Murder, it’s a heartfelt and hysterical look into how society perceives women and the pitfalls women constantly experience。 Plus, there’s some interesting facts about murder。。。as a murderino, that was the cherry on top for me!

This made for a good beach read。 I enjoyed the walk down memory lane back to the 80's and 90's。 I applaud the authors for being vulnerable enough to tell their stories。 This made for a good beach read。 I enjoyed the walk down memory lane back to the 80's and 90's。 I applaud the authors for being vulnerable enough to tell their stories。 。。。more

These two woman。 I could gush about how wonderful I think they are for way too long。 And, like another reviewer said, I will always be a little jealous I’m not best friends with Karen and Georgia。 This book was heartfelt, funny, and well written。 I highly recommend the audiobook as they perform it so well。 I feel like I know them a little bit better now having listened。 6 hours well spent。 SSDGM

Amazing!Basically like listening to their podcast with way more info about them。 Felt like I was sitting down with a friend and they were telling me all of their crazy stories!

not at all what I expected, but honestly exactly what I needed right now。 I have no idea who I’d recommend this book to。。。not sure if I would, but it’s so sweet and funny and a little light that I needed。 Thank you Karen and Georgia

Carly

its good 。。 prefer the podcast more 。。 but nice to see where they came from

Thom Gore

This book was funny and cute, while, at the same time, serious。

I've listened to a some of their podcasts, though I don't subscribe。 I didn't pay attention to the blurb about the book - I should have。 Turns out this is more memoir and doesn't really have anything to do with True Crime。 I've listened to a some of their podcasts, though I don't subscribe。 I didn't pay attention to the blurb about the book - I should have。 Turns out this is more memoir and doesn't really have anything to do with True Crime。 。。。more

This is a cringey self help guide。 The true crime elements are little to none。 Maybe you have to be a fan of the writers to enjoy this。

God I love these ladies

I borrowed this book solely because of the title, but it convinced me to listen to the podcast。 Karen and Georgia are funny and share their vulnerability in a beautiful way。

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book! I intentionally dragged it out only allowing myself to read a chapter a day because I did not want it to end! Karen and Georgia’s lives are so interesting and it’s great how open they are with very sensitive and personal experiences。 I laughed out loud many times while reading and felt my heart warmed in other parts of the book。 Overall its a feel good book intertwining feminist views throughout leaving you feeling empowered and positive with slightly more I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book! I just loved this and flew through the book。 This is true Karen and Georgia style and just an informative piece with amazing quotes, as can be expected from this duo。

Absolutely love the podcast and this book。 Never thought I would laugh so much with the word murder in the title。 For those who love true crime please listen to this book。

This book is life-changing。 I came from the My Favorite Murder podcast to this book expecting to hear about death, drama, and disaster。 What I got was so much more。 I've been struggling with life (school, work, and decisions), and this book really hit me hard and helped to reinforce the decisions I know I need to make in order to be happier, healthier, and better (overall)。 This book is life-changing。 I came from the My Favorite Murder podcast to this book expecting to hear about death, drama, and disaster。 What I got was so much more。 I've been struggling with life (school, work, and decisions), and this book really hit me hard and helped to reinforce the decisions I know I need to make in order to be happier, healthier, and better (overall)。 。。。more

I've only recently found and started listening to the episodes of "My Favorite Murder" on YouTube, and I have people recommending me this book to blame for that。 I bought it around the same time I started listening, and I thoroughly enjoy this look and insight into some more of Karen and Georgia's personal thoughts and anecdotes。 I've only recently found and started listening to the episodes of "My Favorite Murder" on YouTube, and I have people recommending me this book to blame for that。 I bought it around the same time I started listening, and I thoroughly enjoy this look and insight into some more of Karen and Georgia's personal thoughts and anecdotes。 。。。more

Super entertaining tales from both Karen and Georgia’s early life, career and relationships。 Any fan of My Favorite Murder podcast will love this book! Finished this in about 2 days。

I guess I have a tough time with memoir-style pieces that are written by influencers/celebrities/personalities rather than memoirists。 Not quite as impressed by this attempt as I am by their podcast prowess。
